Female American scientist, obstetrical anaesthesiologist, inventor of Apgar score. Apgar developed a simple, rapid method for assessing newborn viability, the Apgar score, which has long been a standard practice adopted by obstetric teams. The Apgar Score method reduced infant mortality and laid the foundations of neonatology.
