Jane Cooke Wright

1919 - 2013

Cook Wright was one of the first female African American doctors who made a notable contribution to cancer researcher. She pioneered the technique of using human tissue to test the effect of chemotherapy treatments for cancer patients. Her research studied the effect of many different drugs on cancerous tumours and she discoverd that the most effective was Methotrexate. This drug is still the basis of many chemotherapy treatments today.
