Mae Carol Jemison

1956 - Present

Jemison was the first African-American woman to fly in space. She was the science mission specialist on the Shuttle Endeavour's STS-47 Spacelab-J mission in September 1992. She worked on a number of experiments on her mission to space such as observing how tadpoles developed at zero gravity. She is currently the principle of the 100 Year Starship Organization.
